As I came around the front of the buildings on the other side of the “no trespassing” sign, now deep in the heart of The Boroughs, I hopped a fence to see what all the fuss was about. What I found was a hidden trove of what you’re seeing here: half a city block, covered in art, top to bottom, on both sides.
Standing in the center of this alley, I had to take a step back (well, it’s an alley, so as far back as I could) and let it all sink in. There’s end to end murals running down the 20 foot high walls — it’s almost more than the eye can take at first viewing. Understandably, the cramped conditions made it somewhat difficult to get these shots, but in the true urban spirit, I made do with what I had.
On the right wall was a great simplistic piece that simply said “Art: it’s what we are..” Similar to the “Because it’s art” message from Vegas I, I just don’t believe it gets any clearer than that: people doing what they do because they love to do it, and for the benefit of others who enjoy what they do.
